Project 52: weeks 7 & 8 {Backlight & Low light}

Feb 21, 2014

The focus for the month of February has been Light….all kinds of light. Light plays a huge role in photography and can make or break a picture if not used correctly. I am still learning how to use various forms of light but this month’s challenges have really helped.

For week 7 the challenge was backlight. I LOVE backlight. I think it gives pictures a really soft, golden glow and makes for some really interesting images. When I was shooting my maternity session last weekend the light from the setting sun was absolutely gorgeous! I was able to get a couple of great backlit shots but my favorite was this silhouette. The combination of the sunset and her adorable baby bump was too much to resist 🙂

This week’ (week 8) challenge is low light. I have to admit that I have slight fear of low light situations. The other night we let Brinley take the iPad to bed with her so she could watch her cartoons for a few minutes before going to sleep (we don’t do this often but she had been really good all evening). It is really rare that I can enter her room without distracting her so when I crawled in with my camera and snapped away without her even noticing me I was shocked. But I love the resulting images. I guess I will have to sneak in her room more often 🙂
