Last week my husband, daughter and I took a break from unpacking boxes and organizing to head to the beach. It was a nice, relaxing break from the craziness of moving into a new house. One of the things I intended to do on this trip was take some time to read a book or two. One of the books I read (The School of Essential Ingredients) had a character that I really connected with. She was a young woman who was struggling to find her identity outside of her role as a wife and a mother. She had a small role in the book, but one line that really hit home with me came when an older woman was talking to her and asked her “What do you love to do that is just for you?”. She went on to explain that we all need to find the one thing that makes us happy, not something we do to make others happy, something that is just for ourselves and DO IT!
There are several things that I love. I love working out (I know…I am crazy!). I love good wine, desserts, cheese and fresh fruit (I work out so I can have these things). I love spending time with my family and friends and I love reading a good book. These are are all things I plan to make a lot more time for.
The other big love in my life is photography, which brings to the main topic of this post. Photography has always been a love of mine, and it is why I got into the photography business. I get to capture more than just moments for people (and myself). I get to capture memories. When I look at pictures I don’t just see the one single moment frozen in time. I am reminded of all the things that were going on at that moment.
