Wedding Planner 101

When you first start planning your big day it can feel overwhelming. There are SO many details, vendors and things to think about. You might not always know where to start. I have asked a good friend of mine, who is also an amazing wedding planner, to give you a little information about why she does what she does for brides….and why you need her too! 

 

Many brides think hiring a planner is to expensive,  they want a DIY wedding or a close friend or family member will plan it. Let me stop you right there, every bride needs a planner! I am a planner myself and even I will have one. Let me elaborate on these three main reasons why.

It is not in my budget:

Most planners have contacts with local vendors and hotels and are able to offer lower rates than you would get on your own. All planners have several packages but overall if you do your research most are not really all that expensive, at the very least every bride needs a day of coordinator. This is the person who will be there on your wedding day to handle all of the “day of” details. It is your wedding day, you deserve it to be stress free and you will look back and see it was well worth it!

I want to plan my own wedding:

Most brides do! However a planner works for you, so he or she plans your special day exactly how you want it. You will have several details meetings with your planner and he or she goes though exactly what you want. You can decide how much of the work you want to take on but the planner will handle the rest! Keep in mind, your planner can also offer tips and tricks they have learned through their experience that can make your DIY wedding much easier.

A family or close friend will plan it:

Planners love to incorporate family and friends into the wedding day and would be more than happy to do so. However if they are solely in charge, that means they have a lot on their plate; not just prior to the wedding but the day off too. Is it not fair for your friends and family to be carrying things all around your venue, checking in with vendors, setting up for cocktail hour etc. They are a guest and should be able to enjoy the wedding as well. Let a Planner handle it all!

 

Planning a wedding is a lot of work, it can be a fun process but don’t make it stressful when it doesn’t need to be. Look around for different planners, check out pricing, what they offer etc. Most offer the first meeting free! When you find one you like, book em, you won’t be sorry!
