My first StitchFix

May 20, 2014

I know this isn’t photography related (unless you consider the fact that I might wear one of these outfits to a photo shoot this summer) but I wanted to share anyway.

A few months ago I saw a post on Facebook from an old HS friend of mine about something called Stitch Fix. I clicked on the link and browsed around the site for a few minutes, but then I got distracted (shocking, I know!) and forgot about it. A few weeks ago I saw another friends mention it and decided to take a second look. This idea is genus! For $20 you get a personal stylist that will pick out 5 items for you based on your style profile, notes and Pinterest boards. They send you the items in the mail for you to try on at home and decide if you want to keep them or not. If you choose to keep one or more items the $20 you spent to get the items is applied to your purchase. If you buy all 5 items you get a 25% discount! If you choose to send something back you just put it in the envelope they provide and stick it in the mail….easy cheesy! The more times you do it and the more feedback you give the more personalized your “fixes” become. For a busy mom who works full time this is a life saver!

Yesterday I received my first fix in the mail. I was so excited to see what was in the box that I almost forgot to take pictures first.

Each box comes with a personal note from your stylist and cards that show different ways to wear each item.

Since it was just me and Brinley at home I didn’t attempt to take pictures of me wearing the clothes so I just hung them up for you to see. The first item I tried on was my favorite and definite keeper. I had asked for cute summer clothes that could go from the playground to a lunch date and this top is perfect for that. The fabric as super comfortable and flattering. It is also a longer length top which I like.

The next item in my box was a pair of really cute white skinny leg jeans. I especially loved that they had an elastic waist (even if it did remind me of my maternity pants), however, the fit was not the most flattering on me and the material was a little too heavy for summer use in Texas. These were a no-go!

The second I touched this dress I fell in love with it. The material was so soft it was ridiculous! Unfortunately that is where the love affair ended. The pattern was not flattering on me, and since it was one of the more expensive items in the box I decided to pass on it this time.

I was a little confused when I saw this top in my fix. I did say “summer items”….right? Maybe I should have specified that I live in Texas and long sleeves don’t even remotely work in the heat here. I tried it on anyway, thinking it would be a cute work shirt and it was very comfortable. It is a maybe for now. I haven’t completely decided if I am keeping this one or sending it back yet.

My last item was a cute pair of red capri length pants. They were a lighter material which would be perfect for summer (and would probably look really cute with the chambray top pictured above) but since I already have a pair of red capri pants hanging in my closet I choose to send these back.

Even though 3 out of the 5 items I received were returns (maybe 4) I still had fun with my first fix. I will definitely do it again and I think the more my stylist gets to know me the better my fixes will be. I can’t wait to see what my next box contains!
