P52:4 & P52:5 {Getting caught up} – DFW portrait photographer

Feb 4, 2014

Just when I think I am all caught up I realize that I never posted my Project 52 image for week 4. So lucky you….you get TWO weeks for the price of one! What a bargain 🙂

Week 4’s theme was “My Town” and as a “new” resident of Justin,TX I debated on wether or not I use Justin or nearby Fort Worth as my subject. I do have some great shots from the stockyards I could use…..buuuut, since I am doing this as a way to push myself and try new things I decided to branch out and take some new images from around my new “hometown”.

Justin’s claim to fame is being home to the famous Justin Boot Co. so of course it was only fitting that I include a shot of some of the many boots they have to sell in the 3 or 4 shops around town….which pretty much means they run the town since there aren’t many other businesses besides that.

The other image was taken during my daily back roads “commute” to work (please forgive the blurry cell phone image….I didn’t have my camera with me that morning and the sunrise was too pretty to miss). I have to say that I don’t miss highway traffic one bit and I laugh when I find myself getting irritated when there is more than one car (or tractor) on the road with me. I guess you could say that I have adjusted to country living pretty well! 🙂

Week 5’s theme was “Candid Image”. Wow,talk about broad! I have a million candid images stored on my computer….but, once again, the point is to push myself and take NEW photos. So, the other night when I was cooking dinner, Brinley wanted nothing more than to spend time with me at the kitchen island. So I pulled up her booster chair and let her “help”, However, her version of helping was to kick back, put up her feet and read a good book…..hmmm, maybe someday I can do that while she cooks for me 🙂 It was just too cute not to capture and as soon as I saw the image in my camera I knew it was perfect for this week’s theme.
When taking photos for other families, one of the things I always try to capture are the real moments. The ones that can’t be duplicated or posed. Yes, posed shots where everyone is looking at the camera and smiling nicely are great, but the images that evoke the most emotion and the best memories are the unplanned moments. Images like the one of Brinley this week will forever have a special place in my heart. They are the moments that tell the REAL story of our lives. There may be clutter in the background and the lighting may not be great….but none of that will matter 20, 30 or 50 years from now when I want to remember that moment just as it was.
