The Ins and Outs of Bridesmaid Dresses

Bridesmaids dress shopping can be a tough venture, especially when you’re trying to please so many women. All women feel differently about their bodies and will prefer certain styles to enhance their best features. With this and choosing colors, it is sure to be a difficult decision. But ladies, that’s why you have me here to help!  In this post, you will learn the ins and outs of choosing colors, styles and a few tips for bridesmaid dresses. This will ensure that bridesmaids shopping will be so much easier and less stressful for all involved. 

Choosing a Budget

As everyone knows, we do not all have tons of money to spend on a dress we will only wear once. The best thing to do is talk to all your bridesmaids before starting the dress buying process. Some women will feel too uncomfortable with telling everyone they can’t afford the amount decided on. That is why I recommend speaking to your bridesmaids individually rather than putting it in the group message with everyone. This is important because it allows you to get an understanding of what each bridesmaid would be willing to spend. This will make your bridesmaids feel understood and will make your dress buying process a lot less stressful and upsetting.

Choosing the Color(s)

When choosing the color, or colors, of your bridesmaid dresses, you need to consider what will compliment you best. It is your day and you want your bridesmaids to help you shine. If you feel like you want a good mix of colors then allow your bridesmaids to wear different colors that blend well. If you’re wanting the same color for everyone then let that be known from the start. Go to your local dress shop and pick out the exact color swatch to ensure all your ladies are matching perfectly. Furthermore, sometimes when all your bridesmaids are in the same color you will want your Maid of Honor to stand out. It can look so pretty if she wears a different color, or style, that blends with the wedding party. It will allow her to stand out while keeping everyone cohesive and happy.

Choosing the Style(s)

This will probably be the hardest part of the shopping and buying process. As I said in the beginning, not every woman will feel comfortable in the same exact dress. If your wedding party is a mix of different shapes and sizes then I would consider everyone wearing a different style dress. If all your ladies are similar shapes and sizes then find a dress that they will all love and feel beautiful in. If you talk with your bridesmaids and ensure that you are making everyone feel comfortable, it will go smoothly. I also want to throw in that you want to choose a fabric that will compliment your dress and not clash. If your dress is a chiffon with lace then put your bridesmaids in a chiffon dress with lace. It will make everything come together perfectly on your big day, as well as ensuring all your bridesmaids feel beautiful all night and in the pictures.

Making it All Cohesive 

Now that you have picked out your color choice and understand whether they will be in the same style or different ones, I want to give you a few tips and tricks. 

1. If they are wearing different dresses, ensure they are all in the same fabric. Lavender will come off differently on a chiffon dress versus a satin. Especially in pictures, the color difference will be even more noticeable.

2. If you prefer for all your bridesmaids to be in different colors, I recommend wearing the same style dress. Otherwise, it will look like they all came for a different wedding. Also, ensure that the color pallet blends nicely with your wedding colors and that all the dress colors blend nicely, as well.

3. If you want your bridesmaids in the same color, it looks so pretty putting them in different dress styles. It allows each woman to show off their own style and feel comfortable in their dress of choice. The same color ensures that they all match nicely but the different styles give your wedding party a modern twist. Once again, make sure all the fabric is the same. 

4. Lastly, I want everyone to know that it is okay to keep with the traditional same color, same dress. Lately, it is more common for brides to change things up and want something different for their bridesmaid look. For all the OCD brides out there, it is still just as beautiful for your bridesmaids to match in both style and color. 

 

Moreover, I want to say that these are only tips. I understand that many brides will want to challenge the norm and put their bridesmaids in both different styles and different colors. It is your wedding and whatever you decide will suit your personality best, go for it and it will turn out beautiful. 

As I said, with so many opinions it is going to be a challenge to make everyone happy. They are your besties and you want them all to feel as special as possible on your big day, trust me I get it. Just remember, in the end it is your day and they are there to celebrate you and your honey. Do what makes you happy and what suits your wedding best.
